RWJBarnabas Health: Newark Beth Israel Medical Critical Care Unit and Emergency Department

Healthcare Emergency Medicine Acute Care
The Critical Care Unit is designed to a VIP standard. The neutral palette and design elements from the lobby are repeated here to provide a consistent sense of place and branding. Patient room entries are accented with decorative wall panels and integral light fixtures. Each Patient Room has a designated family zone containing a sleep sofa and framed desk area with decorative lighting. Hidden storage for trash and linen and decorative wall finishes provide a pleasant visual and clutter-free aesthetic at footwalls while coordinating headwalls help provide an organized and balanced visual within the room. Motorized window treatments with integrated lighting controls give patients more control over their environment.

Special attention is given to Emergency Department waiting areas ensuring that flexible seating arrangements; loose seating and custom banquettes with integrated charging stations accommodate the many different family needs. Custom decorative screens introduce a pop of color and privacy to both adult and pediatric waiting areas.

Nurse stations and reception areas throughout each department are framed with specialty wall and ceiling finishes to identify these zones. Additionally, perimeter cove lighting distinguishes these areas as well as eliminating the need for down lighting at patient corridors.
